Synopsis and Excerpt
What Did You Say? begins with a three-way conversation among Pierre and his friends, the German Heinrich and the Brazilian Leandro:
"Downtown at 6:30? That jam traffic is going to be terribly bad," Pierre says.
"That is the real shit hell," Heinrich adds.
"Aw, come on, I'm filled up with everyone always winning about traffic in this city," says Leandro.
After "the conversation," a number of vignettes illustrate the multiple and imaginative ways Pierre manages to twist the English language into an undecipherable dialect. The chapter is liberally footnoted with a "Glossary of Terms and Expressions" to assist the confused.
